Grief & disappointment
The death of someone close, divorce, broken dreams, major change or the loss of trust, stability or belonging.
More than addiction
Not every struggle involves a substance. Unresolved pain and unhealthy patterns can keep us stuck, affect our relationships and shape how we respond to life.
Naming what keeps us stuck
Hurts are the wounds we carry. Hang-ups are the attitudes, beliefs and behaviours that may develop around those wounds. They are not signs that someone is beyond hope; they are areas of life that need truth, support, responsibility and healing.
People often experience more than one hurt or hang-up at the same time. REACH offers a safe, Christ-centred community where you can begin understanding what lies beneath the surface and take practical steps forward.
Hurts
A hurt can come from something done to us, something we have lost, or an experience that changed how safe, valued or connected we feel.
The death of someone close, divorce, broken dreams, major change or the loss of trust, stability or belonging.
Abandonment, infidelity, broken promises, exclusion or relationships in which love and safety were inconsistent.
Emotional, physical or sexual abuse, neglect, violence, frightening events or prolonged experiences of helplessness.
Pain connected to past choices, failure, secrecy or messages that created a belief that you are unworthy or unlovable.
Hang-ups
Hang-ups are recurring ways of thinking, reacting or relating that may once have felt protective but now make healthy living and relationships more difficult.
Strong emotional reactions, constant worry, avoidance or difficulty feeling safe even when immediate danger has passed.
Taking responsibility for other people’s choices, struggling to say no or depending on approval to feel secure.
Feeling driven to manage every outcome, avoid mistakes or maintain an image because uncertainty feels unsafe.
Remaining emotionally tied to an offence, replaying what happened or allowing past pain to direct present choices.
